Synopsis
Part 3 pays homage to "The First Hunter." Scientists don't know which animal it was, but they suspect it was a flatworm, and that it first hunted some 565 million years ago. It had a "new, centralized nervous system," says narrator Peter Coyote. It also was the first animal with a head, the first with a brain and the first with eyes. This ancient flatworm, a hermaphrodite, was also the first animal to reproduce sexually. Modern hermaphroditic flatworms are seen here mating. "It's more like war than love," Coyote says---and the loser ends up as the mother.
