Baby Marie Osborne -- the 1910s' version of Shirley Temple -- saves the day in this drama. Jim Davis (Jack Connolly) is a young widower who works as a blacksmith in a small town. He gives his little daughter, Sally Lou (Baby Marie), a sawdust doll which she adores and pretends is her mother. A traveling "beauty doctor" comes to town with his assistant, Rose Budd (Claire DuBrey), a former cabaret dancer. When the "doctor" has financial troubles, he leaves Rose stranded and she goes to work for Raynor (William Quinn), the proprietor of the local drug store. Sally Lou is fascinated by the lady who is demonstrating powder puffs in the drug store window, and she convinces her father to marry her. Rose, however, quickly grows bored with married life and plans to run off with Raynor. Davis joins the service and goes away to training camp. Raynor, it turns out, is part of a conspiracy to destroy the train. Sally Lou finds out about the plot and warns off the train by setting her doll on fire. Rose comes to her senses and reunites with Davis.
