Synopsis by Hal Erickson

First telecast in 1995, the British comedy/satire series The Saturday Night Armistice was hosted by the exotically yclept Armando Iannuncci, who also served as head writer. The series offered a seemingly endless supply of irreverent jokes about prominent politicians, film stars, and other celebrities, specializing in filmed "news segments" in which the speeches and pronouncements of the Rich and Powerful were taken out of context. Also on hand was a toy-doll version of controversial politico Tony Blair, who was then several years away from his Prime Minister post. Before ending its run in 1998, the series switched its time slot to another night, prompting a title change to The Friday Night Armistice. In all, 16 episodes were produced: 13 weekly half-hours and three specials ranging in length from 40 minutes to three hours.
