Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

With little dialogue and expressive gestures and movements, the three protagonists in Rachel Reichman's debut film convey a sense of feeling and mood, rather than logical thought and rational action. The setting is the American South during the Great Depression. John Beuscher is itinerant and out of work, grabbing money where he can and not always completely honestly. One day a widow hires him to do some jobs for her and ends up asking him to marry her mute teen-age daughter. Not only is she mute, but the daughter seems to be disturbed in some way because she spends her time fantasizing about water in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams. This is anything but a conventional tale, and has an equally unconventional ending.
