This is deservedly one of Charley Chase's most popular two-reelers. Charley's pal (Carlton Griffin) tries to set him up on a blind date with Thelma Todd, but Charley isn't having it -- last time he got fixed up with the hideous Kay Deslys. He finally agrees, figuring that if he doesn't shave, chews a few cloves of garlic and wears his pal's ratty suit, he'll scare off this "pip from Pittsburgh." Then when he shows up looking like a bum and is faced with Thelma's blonde beauty, he panics. His attempts to clean up at the dance are hilarious, from his encounter with a perfume machine that won't behave, to his fierce resolve to exchange suits with his reluctant pal -- while they are both on the dance floor with their girls! Thelma Todd positively glows here -- she was on her way to having her own series with Zasu Pitts -- and the chemistry between her and Charley is enchanting. A Spanish version of this picture called La Senorita de Chicago is one of the few foreign versions of a Chase film known to have survived.
