The Phantom (Tom Tyler) manages to slide away in the last second before being gorged by the descending portal. But the Tartar's henchmen kidnap Diana Palmer (Jeanne Bates) and the jungle hero allows himself to be recaptured and brought before Tartar (Dick Curtis) himself. In return for Diana's release, The Phantom must fight Brutus, a giant gorilla wearing the seventh key, the missing piece of the puzzle to the lost city of Zoloz, around his neck. As chapter 12 reaches its conclusion, Brutus seems to have the upper hand.
