Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This adventure film was shot on location in the Alps, with people of the region playing the roles. Professional mountain climbers Luis Trenker and Herther Stern von Walther are the only ones given credit. The footage was edited and titled by playwright Eugene Walters with the help of William Brotherhood. The story is a simple one, and pretty much exists only for the majestic shots of the Alps and the hair-raising mountain climbing. A man wants to ascend the Devil's Needle, a peak which no one has yet conquered. His wife, a woman of the lowlands, tries to discourage him, but his mother, a mountain native who understands, lends her encouragement. Near the top a storm sends him to his death. His widow makes her son swear never to try his hand at conquering the Devil's Needle. He obeys her, but when he grows up his sweetheart decides to try it herself instead of letting an outsider get there first. Close to the peak, however, she panics. The young man insists on going after her, and his mother relents in order that he save the girl's life. He accomplishes the perilous climb, fulfilling his father's ambition, and rescues his sweetheart.
