Historians and gangster flick fans alike will appreciate this release from the archives of the United States' own Library of Congress. Among the featured genre hallmarks is director Maurice Tourneur's 1915 silent film Alias Jimmy Valentine, which chronicles the adventures of a good-hearted professional safecracker. D.W. Griffith's The Narrow Road (1912), starring a then 19-year-old Mary Pickford, is also included. Other productions in the series include The Origins of Film: The Origins of the Fantasy Feature and The Origins of Film: The Origins of American Animation.
