Synopsis by Hal Erickson

In order to afford a car for his wife's tenth anniversary present, news writer Murray (Gavin MacLeod) moonlights as a cab driver. Naturally, Murray keeps his "double life" a secret from wife, Marie (Joyce Bulifant), and everybody else. This puts Mary (Mary Tyler Moore) at a decided disadvantage when she tries to convince this distraught Marie that Murray is not spending his evenings with another woman. If the scene between Mary and Marie looks painfully convincing, it should; reportedly, actress Joyce Bulifant got so emotionally involved during rehearsal an equally tearful Mary Tyler Moore had to pull back, kiddingly chiding her co-star with "Oh, Joyce, you'll send us all back to acting school!" "The Slaughter Affair" originally aired on January 15, 1972.
