Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Bored out of her gourd while doing extra office work in her apartment late one night, a giddy Mary (Mary Tyler Moore), egged on by a giggling Rhoda (Valerie Harper), composes a joke obituary for Minneapolis' oldest citizen. But it's no joke the next day when a horrified Mary finds out that the old guy has actually died -- and she's too late to prevent Ted (Ted Knight) from reading the flippant obit on the air. Though she cannot deny that her boss, Lou (Ed Asner), has every reason to be mad at her, Mary bristles when he suspends her from her job -- and in high dudgeon, she quits on the spot. "Better Late...That's a Pun...Than Never" first aired on February 2, 1974.
