Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Nancy Walker returns in the role of Ida Morgenstein, the quintessential Jewish mother. After witnessing the warm and casual relationship between Phyllis Lindstrom (Cloris Leachman) and Phyllis' daughter, Bess (Lisa Gerritsen), and "accidentally" overhearing a telephone conversation between Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) and Mary's mom, Ida, decides that it is time to call a truce with her prickly daughter, Rhoda (Valerie Harper). Determined to become Rhoda's "best friend," Ida overplays her hand as usual, and before long, her relationship with Rhoda is more contentious than ever. Written by the same team responsible for the future Valerie Harper sitcom Rhoda, "A Girl's Best Mother Is Not Her Friend" originally aired on October 16, 1971.
