Synopsis by Hal Erickson

One of many "kiddie" pictures which glutted the marketplace in 1917, The Little Pirate spotlighted little Zoe Rae, a now-forgotten predecessor to Shirley Temple. The complications begin piling up when Virginia Baird (Gretchen Lederer), the mother of cute li'l Margery (Roe), foolishly invests her daughter's trust-fund in one of her irresponsible husband's (Frank Brownlee) get-rich-quick schemes. The family almost immediately goes broke, forcing Margaret to take drastic action to set things aright. Things take a potentially tragic turn in Reel Four, but the diminutive heroine manages to pull everyone's coals out of the fire by Reel Five. Frank Brownlee, the man cast as Zoe Rae's father, later became a mainstay of the Hal Roach studios, appearing in such Laurel and Hardy comedies as Pack Up Your Troubles and The Midnight Patrol.
