Synopsis by Brian J. Dillard

Counseling sessions abound in this episode of HBO's Six Feet Under. After a marriage preparation seminar with Rabbi Ari (Molly Parker), Nate (Peter Krause) finally comes clean with fiancée Brenda (Rachel Griffiths) about his outside dalliance and impending fatherhood. Brenda, however, remains mum about her own sexual escapades. She even engages in a therapeutic, retaliatory three-way with a pair of comely teenaged potheads. Meanwhile, Ruth (Frances Conroy) frets that Claire (Lauren Ambrose) may be depressed, but during a chat with Gary (David Norona), the girl's guidance counselor, Ruth learns that she herself may be the one with a problem. In fact, Claire seems downright giddy -- at least during a blissed-out mushroom trip with pal Parker McKenna (Marina Black). Self-help is the name of the game for David (Michael C. Hall), who comes clean about the way boyfriend Keith (Mathew St. Patrick) treats him like a doormat. David also counsels Keith to stand up to his imposing father (James Pickens Jr.) during a custody dispute over Keith's niece, Taylor (Aysia Polk). As for the Diaz clan, Vanessa (Justina Machado) needs some career counseling after Federico (Freddy Rodriguez) gets her fired by uncovering a homicide at the nursing home where she works. And Fisher & Sons needs some legal counsel when former client Catherine Collins (Harriet Sansom Harris from the episode "In Place of Anger") sues them with a little help from Kroehner. "The Liar and the Whore" marked season two, episode 11 of the made-for-cable drama.
