Synopsis by Perry Seibert

Daniel Barber's civil-war drama The Keeping Room stars Brit Marling as Augusta, a young woman in the South who must tend to her family's farm with the help of only her sulky teen sister Louise (Hailee Steinfeld) and their loyal slave Mad (Muna Otaru). Two Union soldiers, played by Sam Worthington and Kyle Soller, who have been sent ahead by General Sherman to scout the area, steal and rape their way through the town, and eventually lay siege to Augusta's home. The women work together to protect themselves, and eventually must decide what to do as Sherman's army is on the verge of overrunning the entire area. The Keeping Room screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.
