Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Returning to a Saturday-night time slot, The Jeffersons launched its fourth season with a special one-hour episode. Overhearing George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) brag about his wealth and his posh new offices, two seedy-looking men break into the Jefferson apartment, intending to kidnap George's wife, Louise (Isabel Sanford). Before long, George is receiving a phone call demanding an exorbitant ransom -- but that's hardly the end of the story. Originally shown in a single 60-minute dose on September 24, 1977, "The Grand Opening" has since been divided into two 30-minute segments for syndication.
