From the award-winning children's series The Inventors' Specials, comes this entertaining and educational glimpse into the life and work of Albert Einstein. The series combines fact with fictionalized stories to highlight a key period in the lives of famous inventors. In Einstein: Light to the Power of 2, the genius tutors a poor young black girl, Lannie. As Lannie helps Einstein recall his early struggles for intellectual freedom, Einstein decides to defend his friend Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, who was singled out as a communist supporter. The program presents viewers with selected Einstein theories, the communist panic of the 1940s and 1950s, and the challenges poor minority families experience. Other programs in this series for youngsters between the ages of eight and 13 are Edison: Wizard of Light, Leonardo: A Dream of Flight, Galileo: On the Shoulders of Giants, Marie Curie: More Than Meets the Eye, and Isaac Newton: A Tale of Two Isaacs.
