Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program is the second volume in a four-part series, produced by the Arts and Entertainment Network, that examines the Impressionist art movement in France. The idea of the free use of color and light to depict scenes of nature and common life was revolutionary indeed. The program looks at some of the major proponents of the new aesthetic sensibility, including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Pissaro, Sisley, and Bazille. Paintings by these and other artists illustrate the program, and are accompanied by the commentary of artists, art historians, and curators. Journals and letters shed light on the private lives of the artists who started the other French revolution.
