This Edison five-reeler was reviewed by the trade magazine Variety under the title House of the Lost Court. Viola Dana, arguably the biggest star to emerge from the Edison film factory, plays Delores Edgerton in this sordid tale of sibling rivalry, deception and murder. Motivating the story is the long-standing enmity between two brothers: The "bad" Sir Anthony Elliot (Robert Conness) and the "good" Captain Paul Elliot (Duncan MacRae). Hoping to get his mitts on the family millions, Anthony arranges for Paul to be accused of the murder of his wife. It is innocent bystander Delores Edgerton who stumbles upon the truth when she mistakes the fugitive Paul as a nocturnal ghost. And it is Delores who forces the sole witness to the murder, Sir Anthony's partner-in-crime Nina Desmond (Sally Crute), to absolve Paul of all blame. If the film seemed slicker and more professional than the usual Edison effort, it was no doubt due to the superior direction of Charles J. Brabin, who had been with the studio since 1908. House of the Lost Cord was based on a novel by Mrs. C.N. Williamson.
