Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

In his second of two serials, veteran matinée idol King Baggot enjoyed the opportunity of appearing in a multitude of disguises as a famed criminologist who comes to the aid of two pretty murder victims. When their father is murdered, Claire (Rhea Mitchell) and Jean Drake (Grace Darmond) turn to Sheldon Steele (Baggot) who, in order to ferret out the culprit, assumes such disguises as a waiter, an East Indian swami, a stoker, the head of a detective bureau, and a mysterious Oriental. The murderer is identified in the 15th and final chapter, "The Showdown," and proves to be the girl's greedy uncle, a master criminal known under the alias of "Iron" Dugan (Harry Lorraine). Directed by W.S. Van Dyke, who paid his dues in low-budget action serials such as this, The Hawk's Trail also featured Stanton Heck, George Siegmann, Carmen Phillips, and Carl Stockdale.
