The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century: Stalemate is volume two in the eight-part educational and historical documentary series from PBS. This 60-minute episode features the early months of WWI, from August 4, 1914, through December 31, 1914. The topics of nationalism, propaganda, human suffering, courage, heroism, and volunteerism are discussed. Archival photographs and autobiographical accounts realistically depict the conflict.
