Synopsis by Mark Deming
Among the greatest funnymen of Hollywood's Golden Age, W.C. Fields turned one of the least likable characters imaginable -- a dishonest, booze-addled curmudgeon who had little use of most people, particularly woman and children -- into a comic persona that earned him loyal fans all over the world. The Great Man: W.C. Fields is a documentary which examines Fields' long career on the stage and screen, including rare behind-the-scenes footage and highlights from some of his best-known pictures.
