Hated by the beautiful people and loved by the masses, the magazine FRANK is one of Canada's most notorious and popular tabloids. Former BBC cameraman Rick Caine directs this fly-on-the-wall style documentary about this controversial rag and particularly about its publisher Michael Bate, a happy family man who was raised in an ultra-strict household. Is Bate a racist and a monster as his critics accuse or is he a muckraking media watchdog willing to take on politicians and celebrities? Caine shows Bate wrestling with ethical issues on a daily basis, both as he puts together the latest edition of his magazine. This film was screened at the 2001 Toronto Film Festival.
