Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Utilizing stop-motion animation, the British children's series The Flumps charted the adventures of a family of "fluffy fur balls" and "pom poms with limbs," to use two of the many fan descriptions. The Flump Family consisted of Father, Mother, Granddad (or Grandpa), Posy, Perkin, and Poodle. Each character possessed his or her own distinctive headgear, all spoke with pronounced North Country accents, and their adventures usually took place within their house or their garden. Extremely clever and amusing, especially for an avowed "pro-social" effort, the series also included a number of intriguing props, such as the family's "Flumpcycle," and an abundance of songs, many of them performed on the "Flumpet." The 13 ten-minute episodes of The Flumps originally aired over the BBC in 1976, remaining in circulation throughout the 1980s.
