Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Something of a British cult TV favorite, The Family Ness was a series of five-minute cartoons about an extended family of Loch Ness monsters. Bearing such self-descriptive names as Silly-Ness, Ferocious-Ness, Heavy-Ness, Lovely-Ness, Sporty-Ness, and Baby-Ness (shades of The Smurfs...), these lovable "Nessies" broke the rules of Monstrosity by making friends with a brace of young humans, Elspeth and Angus McTout. Whenever the kids wanted to embark upon another adventure with the Family Ness, they would blow upon their magical "thistle whistle," much to the confusion of their Scottish father, who of course was skeptical about the existence of lake monsters. Created by Peter Maddocks, and directed by Jack Stokes of Yellow Submarine fame, The Family Ness went into production in 1983, though most of the episodes were distributed to English stations in 1989.
