Synopsis by Alice Duncan
The Fabulous '60s, a ten-part documentary series narrated by Peter Jennings and originally aired on ABC, is about the turbulent decade when international tensions, philosophical differences, and a movement towards expanding consciousness produced a kaleidoscopic view of life. Excerpts from film and television coverage review significant events in politics, international news, and developments in science and technology. They also provide a look at popular culture, sports, and entertainment. Highlights from this episode include: the War in Vietnam and demonstrations against the draft; Muhammad Ali's refusal to be drafted in the Vietnam war, and consequent deprivation of his heavyweight boxing title; and the race-related riots in Detroit.
