Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program is part of an award-winning series that takes the viewer for an inside look at some obscure but interesting places and the people who inhabit them. This episode travels deep into the swampy country of southern Louisiana to Plaquemines Parish. This Mississippi River town in Cajun country was the site of a devastating flood in 1927 that has been remembered in story and song. It is also home to one of the most strongly entrenched political families in the state. The program investigates the fact and legend that have sprung up around Judge Leander Perez. Archival film footage, photographs, personal accounts, and commentary by a local historian tell the story of the staunch segregationist and his family.
