Synopsis by Sandra Brennan
In this Sri Lankan drama, an independent woman carves a niche in society for herself. After Punna's father must take a forced retirement due to a disability, she finds herself unmarriageable because her family can no longer pay her dowry. Wickrama, an eligible fellow, claims he doesn't care about a dowry, but he would love to borrow some money so he can finish his home. Punna's father loans him the money. Wickrama returns it and then, because he is a fugitive con artist pursed by police, disappears. Punna is devastated. She then takes a job working at a clothing company owned by the wealthy father of a friend. Soon she becomes his mistress. Wickrama returns and Punna quits her job to search for renewed respect.
