Light comedian Harry Meyers wrote, directed and co-starred in 1915's The Earl of Pawtucket. The title role, however, was reserved for Lawrence D'Orsay, who essayed the character on stage. The plot concerns a phony British nobleman who impresses the yokels with his affected upper-crust accent (a comedy device completely lost in this silent production). In casting the film, Meyers reserved a meaty role for his wife and frequent acting partner, Rosemary Theby. If you have trouble "placing" Harry Meyers, perhaps you'll remember him as the drunken millionaire in Chaplin's City Lights (1931).
