Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Produced at the CBC's cramped Winnipeg studios, The Diane Stapley Show attempted to substitute star power for production values on a weekly, half-hour basis. According to most observers, singer Diane Stapley was more effective as a guest star on other programs than she was as host of her own series. Even so, her program boasted an impressive roster of celebrity guests, including Canadian TV stalwarts Dinah Christie and Gordon Pinsent. Actually taped in the fall of 1975, The Diane Stapley Show was not unveiled by CBC until January 22, 1976. The series went on hiatus on May 27 of that same year, briefly returning, with a new format, from September 24 to December 31.
