Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Charles Swickard's moralistic novel was made into a play by Franz Molnar, and then into this feature by Thomas Ince. Milli (Rhea Mitchell) is both mistress and model to portrait artist Harry Lang (Arthur Maude), but he had once been involved with Isabella (Bessie Barriscale). Because she was penniless, she went on to marry the moneyed Alfred Zanden. Since there is still gossip flying around, Zanden has Lang paint his wife's portrait and brings her to the studio himself. But Zanden and Milli both leave the studio and the Devil (Edward Connelly) appears in the form of Dr. Miller and starts giving Lang and Isabella ideas. They become involved even though Lang is engaged to her friend, Elsa. The Devil then convinces Isabella to write Lang a letter offering to leave her husband for him. Milli informs Elsa that Lang is faithless and they go off to console one another while Lang and Isabella continue their affair. The Devil laments that as long as mortals cannot resist temptation he will be forever banned from paradise. The next we see of Lang and Isabella, they are in hell, begging the Devil for mercy -which they don't get.
