Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A handsome German exchange student upsets the balance of a dysfunctional, middle class household in this dark satire from the Netherlands. Though outward appearances suggest that 15-year-old Eva van End (Vivian Dierickx) hails from a relatively "normal" household, the sudden appearance of German exchange student Veit (Rafael Gareisen) quickly reveals the opposite to be true; when obsessive father Evert (Ton Kas) isn't fixating how to improve his productivity at work, he's likely to be found engaged in epic Skype chats with a young boy from Africa - the only person, Evert claims, who truly understands him. Meanwhile, as depressed mother Etty (Jaqueline Blom) scolds her youngest son Manuel (Abe Dijkman) for dealing drugs while heaping praise on his marriage-obsessed older sibling Erwin (Tomer Pawlicki), youngest child Eva (Vivian Dierickx) gets lost in the shuffle. But that all changes when Eva signs up to have a German exchange family live with her family for two weeks, and shortly after arriving, Veit prompts everyone involved to reassess their priorities. It won't be an easy process, however, because the more about Eva's troubled family that comes to light, the more fractured their relationships - and lives - begin to appear.
