Synopsis by Ryan Shriver

Existential cinema in its most literal sense, Jean-Charles Fitoussi's 2002 film The Days When I Don't Exist examines the life of one unfortunate soul whose very existence depends upon which day of the week it happens to be. Antoine (Antoine Chappey) never leaves his apartment anymore, due to his bizarre condition. Every other night at midnight, his body completely disappears -- only to reappear in exactly the same place at midnight the following night. This situation has filled Antoine with no small amount of anguish and, as a result, he has chosen to shun all relationships. Until, of course, he meets Clémentine (Clémentine Baert). The two try to develop a relationship, but Antoine's bi-nightly disappearances are more than either of them can stand. Antoine begins to contemplate ways to end his existence altogether and convinces Clémentine to carry out the deed. The Days When I Don't Exist was featured at the 2002 Locarno International Film Festival.
