Synopsis by Nathan Southern
This epic-length, 15 1/2 hour opera release features a production of Wagner's entire "Ring" cycle (Der Ring des Nibelungen) by the Royal Danish Opera, with all four installments presented consecutively: Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdamerung. Kasper Bech Holten handled the production; Michael Schønwandt conducts. This version per se takes a somewhat unique approach by setting each of the installments in a different decade of the 20th century, and using that chronology to comment on some of the idelogies that prompted the collapse of the "modern age."
