Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video is the third in a four-volume set that traces the history of golf, from its first days in the cow pastures in Scotland through its emergence as a major sport in the 20th century. Golf owes much of its modern popularity to its televised coverage. Stars like Arnold Palmer, whose expressive face and winning personality made him a natural for television, developed a personal following among golf aficionados. The televised golf star circuit was born. Better and more world class courses were built to meet increased demand. The video looks at the game between 1945 and 1962.
