This program is part one of a series, hosted by Zoro, which traces the history of drumming on the American music scene. This episode pays homage to the roots of soul music, which came from a variety of sources, including black gospel churches, Southern and Chicago blues performers, the street music of New Orleans, and the Detroit Motown sound. Drumming techniques are demonstrated, and the music of some early R&B greats are presented. These include appearances by Aretha Franklin, the Meters, the Four Tops, and James Brown and His Famous Flames.
