Synopsis by Alice Day
In this series, the relationship of man and the sea is explored, from its earliest history to the uncertainties of its future. To keep from depleting the oceans, the fishing industry has turned to aquaculture as a means of supplying world demand for seafood. Fish farms on Canada's west coast are discussed in The Blue Revolution: Farming the Sea. In many of the wealthy countries, diets have shifted from an emphasis on red meat to one that includes more fish, and supplies are diminishing worldwide. In this program, a history of salmon farming is provided, and details of this relatively new venture are given.
