Formed at a school for the handicapped in 1937, the Blind Boys of Alabama is one of the greatest and most influential groups of traditional Southern gospel music, and in the 1990s they began to enjoy a new popularity with contemporary audiences thanks to collaborations with artists such as Ben Harper and Peter Gabriel. Recorded during a concert appearance in New York City, The Blind Boys of Alabama: Go Tell It on the Mountain finds the vocal group performing a program of Christmas music with contributions from a handful of special guests, including Aaron Neville, Chrissie Hynde, Mavis Staples, Robert Randolph, Michael Franti and others.
