Synopsis by Augustine Chay
Chilean director Valeria Sarmiento’s period drama is an adaptation of a 19th century novel by Portuguese writer Camilo Castelo Branco. French orphan Sebastian and Italian nurse Laura strike up a lifelong bond when they are taken in by the Marquis Lusault during the final years of the 18th century. When the marquis abandons Laura for a woman of his social standing, her life and Sebastian’s are set for a dramatically intertwined trajectory.
