The great irony surrounding the 1960s and 1970s television phenomenon Beat Club is that, although the program offered exclusive live stage performances by acts that crested the top of the charts in the States, most Americans (who would have flipped their lids over the music delivered on the program) never saw it; produced by Radio Bremen, it aired only in Deutschland. Nevertheless, unlike its western television equivalents (Hullaballoo, Shindig, American Bandstand, Solid Gold) Beat Club imposed no restraints on the length of each song. A series of extracts from Beat Club are now available in a series of home releases. The Best of Beat Club, Vol. 2 sees Jethro Tull covering "Nothing is Easy," Alice Cooper performing "Eighteen," The Kiki Dee Band performing "I've Got the Music in Me," Johnny Rivers performing "The Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie-Woogie Flu," The Hollies covering "Look Through Any Window," Bachman Turner Overdrive playing "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet," The Doobie Brothers performing "China Grove," Ten Years After performing "Good Morning, Little School Girl," Canned Heat covering "Let's Work Together," and Three Dog Night playing "Try a Little Tenderness."
