Synopsis by Kathleen Wildasin

CNN National Correspondent and award-winning journalist Bonnie Anderson examines "the land of the free and the home of the gun" in the 50-minute social documentary The Arms Race in America's Streets. Airing originally as a CNN "Special Report" in 1993, the video focuses on the "vicious cycle" of the gun dilemma: since criminals are increasingly more armed, law enforcement has a struggle greater than ever before and private citizens are compelled to purchase firearms in the name of self defense. Anderson weaves stories around statistics, examines gun control proposals, and takes an in-depth look at the role of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
