Synopsis by Nathan Southern

As a documentary, The Appalachians maintains a broad focus, investigating numerous aspects of life in and around the Appalachian Mountains: history, music, religion, literature, art, ethnicity, economic climate, and fiscal ties to the country-as-a-whole, to name only a few. Documentary writer-producer Phyllis Geller and executive producer Mari-Lynn Evans tour this area in depth, offering a multi-layered sociocultural exploration of the region, accompanied by a soundtrack of Appalachian folk and acoustic music. This documentary was originally produced by and for Nashville, Tennesee PBS affiliates.
