When a Puerto Rican filmmaker, Carlos de Jesus, tries to go home again, he experiences disappointment that his old neighborhood has disintegrated into an area marked by drug abuse and violence. He recalls the old days of his childhood during the '40s and '50s, and attends a reunion of his comrades, the teammates of a stickball team. Like de Jesus, they have moved away from El Barrio to forge new careers as stockbrokers, professors, and school superintendents. In That Old Gang of Mine: El Barrio Remembered, de Jesus expresses regret that his child will not have the comforting support of the old el barrio.
