Synopsis by Tim DiGravina

Tenacious D perform "History" at open mic night at their local club to an indifferent audience. Satisfied that they rock, they kick back and relax at their apartment. A message from club manager Paul (Paul F. Tompkins) tells the boys that they have to come up with a new song if they want to perform at the club again. So it's up to Jack (Jack Black) and Kyle (Kyle Gass) to do more than just 23 Skidoo their fans a new song. The guys struggle with writers' block, forget to record a terrible song they've written solely with finger-snaps, and realize that one effort is just a plagiarizing of an ice cream truck tune. When all methods for seeking inspiration fail, they have a nasty fight, and Kyle quits the band. Jack flips out a la Apocalypse Now. But things return to normal, when their breakup and reunion leads to the inspiration for "Kyle Quite the Band." Back at the club, a bored audience responds with weak applause.
