Almost exactly the same series as the long-running American panel show To Tell the Truth, the British Tell the Truth began its initial four-season run in 1955. Originally hosted by veteran BBC radio personality McDonald Hobley, the series featured three celebrity panelists per episode, who were asked to guess which of three people was telling the truth about him/herself, and which was lying. Ending its first ATV run in 1959, Tell the Truth would be revived many times throughout the next few decades, most memorably in 1966 with entertainer Ted Ray as moderator.
