Synopsis by Alice Day

In this program, the history of communcation is traced from its beginnings on 18th century European semaphore towers to modern times, and offers a glimpse into the future. While the towers were useful, they were inoperable at night or with bad weather. Technology Starters: Getting a Message Through looks at the development of better methods for sending messages, including the utilization of electrical processes and the tappings of Morse code. Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone marked a milestone in achievement, opening the way for modern advances.
