The TLC cable service was the home for this reality-contest series, in which America's best tattoo artists strove for glory and cash prizes in a weekly "creation competition". Each of the six hour-long episodes found two such artists attempting to create as many tattoos as possible within a four-hour period using a common pictorial theme ("sailor", "tribal symbol", "devil mask", "serpent" etc), with points awarded for the beauty and originality of the results. Every episode climaxed at a big-city tattoo expo, where the winner was declared before a highly "decorated" audience. Tattoo Wars made its first mark on American TV fans on October 11, 2007.
