Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
A peasant sacrifices everything, including his ordinary humanity, in order to achieve success and social standing, and succeeds. He retains only the crude manners and sensibilities which he started out with. When he receives his comeuppance, this is poor material for him to fall back on.
