Featuring the illustrations of Kathleen Raymond Roan, Tales of Wonder: Traditional Native American Stories for Children, Vol. 1 includes Why Possum's Tail Is Bare, Pleiades and the Pine Tree, Why Little Grey Bat Flies at Night, The Origin of Fire, Little Turtle and How His Shell Got Cracked, and How Deer Got the Antlers Instead of Rabbit. Howard is Cherokee/Powhatan, and was named Storyteller of the Year by an association of Native Writers and Storytellers.
