Synopsis by Dan Pavlides
Two generations of one family struggle to survive the political and socials changes of early 20th-century Finland. A share cropper who has helped a wealthy family is swindled in a real estate deal after years of loyal service by local officials. His son grows up resenting the government and joins a revolutionary group. A Red Guard is formed as the group fights the invading Germans as well as the forces of evil within their own ruling system. Taken from the novel by Vaino Linna, this film drew more than 3 million viewers in the initial release, earning far more than enough to pay for the $400,000 production cost.
