The ten lucky Survivor fans chosen from 800 applicants are dropped off on the island of Palau in a driving rain in the opening episode of Survivor: Micronesia-Fans vs. Favorites. Banded together as the Airai tribe, these fans aren't aware that they're going to squaring off against 10 previous Survivor contestants, members all of the Malkalal tribe, until Jeff Probst tells them so. Once the lines have been drawn, the first Reward/Immunity Challenge gets under way, involving a puzzles wheels, a pushcart, a wooden-fence obstacle course, and a jerry-built bridge (the Reward for the winners was Tribal Immunity and a supply of firemaking materials). Then, both tribes discover that there's a new development involving Exile Island, the hiding place for the precious Immunity Idols: during this season, two players are to be exiled per episode rather than one (though no one is exiled on this occasion). Of the returnees, Jon "Jonny Playfair" Dalton would seem to be the most popular, but that turns out to be something of an illusion as Day Three on Palau draws to a close.
